Rangers lay down Old Firm marker as Celtic sent packing from Scottish League Cup

Derek McInnes has faced intense scrutiny since taking the helm at Ibrox, but the new Rangers boss ignited the stadium here as his team overpowered Celtic in a sea of blue jerseys to settle the season's first Old Firm clash.

Amid booming electronic music from the speakers, Rangers supporters roared for three unforgettable goals in a resounding League Cup victory. Captain Dan Neil notched a double, sandwiching Kevin Kelsy's second-half strike, which dispatched Martin O'Neill's squad with relative ease. The performance also revealed a budding identity for McInnes's team, characterized by relentless physical effort and abundant sprinting. The football quality may have been uneven, but the determination was sufficient to send the 51,212 home supporters into a frenzy.
